Art Lab

Dublin Coffman High School, in collaboration with the Columbus Museum of Art, is excited to present a new approach to the art viewing experience-pod casting. Pod casts are radio-style shows delivered over the Internet to your computer. These can be played through your computer; they can also be transferred to your MP3 player or iPod for you to listen whenever you wish. Using the latest technology available, you will be able to download ‘audio’ tours created by our very own Coffman High School students.

In May 2005, the Columbus Museum of Art acquired the Phillip J. and Suzanne Schiller Collection of Art and Social Conscience, 1930-1970. It creates one of the most important collections concerned with social commentary in our country. These visual images create a vivid, authentic picture of American culture and history serving as a launch for confronting issues that continue to dominate America today particularly as they relate to issues of race, war, and economics.

Need inspiration? If a painting could speak, what would it say? Students will lend character and voice to select works embracing an astounding range of styles and subject matter. Listen to what our DCHS teens say about works of art from the Schiller Collection which provoke discussion about our nation’s recent past and suggest lessons on how to shape the future, These pod casts are to be developed by Coffman students this winter and spring with the assistance of Museum staff and participating teachers. With the goal of creating dynamic audio for teens, our students will log interviews, write and edit scripts, compose soundtracks, and select sound effects and music. You’ll hear things on CMA headphones inspired by CMA works.

We celebrate the launch of this unique collaborative initiative at an Open House taking place at CMA on January 24th, 2008. Students, families, and DCHS staff will meet to have the opportunity to become acquainted with the Museum and discover what Art Lab is all about.
