How can I find a magazine, journal, or newspaper article?

To find a current periodical article (magazine, journal, or newspaper), one should use a periodical index. Coffman’s library web site provides 2 periodical indexes: Student Resource Center Gold and INFOhio’s EBSCO Host. To access either of these databases, go to http://coffman.dublin.k12.oh.us), then choose Library/Media Center. At home, you will need the passwords – see the library staff or obtain a password bookmark in the library.

Student Resource Center Gold

• Begin your search by typing in the keyword(s) for your topic.
• At the results screen, choose either the Magazines, Journal (more scholarly articles), or Newpaper tab to obtain current news articles.

Special tips:

Results are sorted by DATE (most current to least current).

Always look at “Subjects Related to:” on the left side of the screen to look for similar or better topics.

Narrow by Subdivision allows you to choose sub-topics.

Note the types of articles you are looking at (book review, brief article, letter to editor, column) and choose the most appropriate type of article to meet your need.

EBSCO Host

• Click on INFOhio on library home page, then choose EBSCO Host from list of databases.
• Choose Grades 9-12.
• To narrow your search for ONLY magazines and newspapers, under Include when searching, click on UNCHECK ALL, then click in the boxes for magazines and newspapers.

Use Narrow your Results on the left side of the screen to narrow your topic.
